CSX intermodal I025 passes the old Louisville and Nashville Railroad Depot in downtown Madisonville, as it heads south on the CSX Henderson Subdivision on August 31st, 2022.

This depot was originally dedicated in 1929 and last saw passenger service about 1968 when L&N built a yard office at Atkinson Yard in Madisonville and the passenger train service was moved to that location. Currently the station is owned by the city of Madisonville and houses one of the hubs of the Kentucky Innovation Stations, which helps encourage entrepreneurs, creative business founders, high-growth startups, and savvy investors star in their own success stories.

May 11th, 2022 – CSXT 1776, CSX’s Spirit of our Armed Forces unit, leads I026 as it heads north at Mortons Gap, Kentucky on the Henderson Subdivision.

CSXT 3343 leads I028 crosses the bridge over the Ohio River at Henderson, Kentucky as it makes its way north on the Henderson Subdivision on a beautiful spring day. It, along with about 7 other trains have been waiting on both sides of the river for a work curfew to expire that ran the length of the bridge and viaduct that runs between Henderson, Ky and Evansville, IN. Track crews have been working through the area all week, causing trains to back up on April 19th, 2022.

CSXT 3293 leads I025 as it passes a crane just south of downtown Hanson, Kentucky on April 19th, 2022, as it heads south on the Henderson Subdivision. Preparations are underway at this spot to replace the bridge that the train is rolling across just south of the south end signals for the siding at Hanson.

April 1, 2022 – CSX I025 rolls though the site of the December 10th, 2021, tornado that derailed CSX Q500 on the Henderson Subdivision and devastated the small community Barnsley, Kentucky, and many others along its path as it plowed through 6 states. After four months a lot of debris has been cleared, homeowners have begun to rebuild their homes and lives.

Fortunately, this community didn’t lose anyone to the storm and there were miracles, one of which was when two Hopkins County Sheriff Deputies along with other rescuers found 3- and 15-month baby boys safe inside a bathtub where they’d been hidden to shelter before the Kentucky tornado that killed 78 people in its path, sucked up the whole tub with them inside and flung it from their house.

The boys – 15-month-old Kaden and three-month-old Dallas – were ripped from the home in Barnsley when the tornado struck on December 10. Their grandmother had tucked them into the bathtub for shelter with blankets and a Bible as the storm bore down on them. They all survived the tornado.

Northbound intermodal I026 meets southbound ethanol train B795 with the CSXT 911, Honoring First Responders trailing, at the south end of the siding at Crofton, Kentucky on the Henderson Subdivision on March 25th, 2022.

CSXT 911 is painted in vibrant red with white and gold striped accents along with the logo of program partners First Responders Children’s Foundation and Operation Gratitude. It also features generic police, fire and emergency medical services logos.

CSXT 921 leads intermodal, I026 (Jacksonville, FL – Bedford Park, IL), as it approaches the north end of Kelly Siding on its way north on the Henderson Subdivision at Kelly, Kentucky, on January 27th, 2022, a late winter afternoon.

From Wikipedia: Kelly is an unincorporated community in Christian County, Kentucky, in the United States. Kelly is located at on U.S. Route 41 and is best known for being the location of the 1955 Kelly-Hopkinsville, KY alien encounter, in which residents reported seeing unidentifiable creatures and lights at a rural farmhouse. In honor of this event, the community hosts the Kelly “Little Green Men” Days festival each year, where visitors can buy “intergalactic souvenirs”.

Four of the major railroads are represented here in this shot of northbound empty ethanol train, CSX K442 (Hookers Point – Tampa, FL to Bensenville, IL), being led by Norfolk Southern 7607, Union Pacific 3898 and BNSF 6872, waits in the siding at the north end of Kelly, Kentucky.

Here they meet a southbound hot intermodal, I029, led by CSXT 3472, (59th Street Yard – Chicago, IL to Fairburn, GA) on January 17th, 2022, on the Henderson Subdivision.

A busy moment at CSX Casky yard in Hopkinsville, Kentucky on a cold fringed afternoon as the conductor on loaded ethanol train K627 does a roll-by check from the ground of CSX I026 as their DUP passes his head end and CSX Q503 departs the yard headed south on the Henderson Subdivision on January 7th, 2022.

CSX 503’s crew pulled into the yard around 4am in the morning and it was almost 3pm before a new crew was available to continue its run south to Radnor Yard at Nashville, TN. CSX K627 continued behind 503 to its Hookers Point in Tampa, FL, and I026 continued north to Bedford Park, IL on its daily run.
