Today’s challenge photo is of my nephew Kenneth as he worked on scaling a climbing wall during our visit to St. Louis today.

I can still remember being able to do things like this in my younger days and I’m proud and impressed that he’s adventuresome enough to do something like this.

He’ll be a senior in high school this year, he’s a member of the ski patrol where he lives and an avid snowboarder! I’m going to have to get out there during the winter someday and get pictures of him in action! An amazing young man!

That’s something we all should do when we’re shooting pictures… capture you family doing the things they love!

Today’s iPhone challenge picture was shot while I was covering the local fair for the newspaper here in Madisonville, Ky.

This is Super Wayne! He’s a fixture here around Madisonville and tonight he visited the fair dressed as Superman and I caught this vivid shot of him on the midway at dusk.

The colors and him holding the cape out really help make this picture.

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our daily lives we think that it has to be a struggle sometimes to find a picture to shoot, when sometimes it’s staring you right in the face.

This shot was of the chef yesterday that was preparing our Hibachi Grill food at Mt. Fuji, a local restaurant here in Madisonville, Ky. My nephew Kenneth has been here visiting for the last week or so and has been wanting to go to lunch or dinner here because he loves Sushi and it’s about the only place in town that serves it.

As part of the show our chef pretends to put out a towering onion fire and which adds interest to the picture.

When working on a year-long photography project the simplest way to get your picture is to photograph the things or people that are right in front of you as part of your daily travels.

By the way… the food was outstanding!

Tonight was the first night of our local fair here in Madisonville, Ky and I was there to cover the Miss Hopkins County Pageant for our local paper, The Messenger, where I worked until I retired last year. They hired me to cover a couple nights for them this year plus do a picture story for their upcoming special addition that they do every year.

While I was waiting for the pageant to get under way I wandered around the fairgrounds and captured this shot of one of the rides that is my iPhone challenge picture for the day.

Tonight was the meeting of my train club here in Madisonville, Ky. Unfortunately, or perhaps not, we had to meet on the platform of the L&N Depot where we normally meet, because some vandals broke out several of the large windows in the old train station. Can’t understand why people do things like this and if you know something about what happened I encourage you to call the Madisonville Police Department. It seems that this has been happening around town.

Usually when a train is approaching the station we all leave and gather on the platform to watch it go by, but tonight we were already trackside and so I caught this southbound UP train as members were waving and watching it pass by.

That’s one of the things I love about having my iPhone with me is that on the spur of a moment I can pull it out and capture a moment in time such as this. I also thought it made a good picture for today’s iPhone photo challenge.

I can’t believe that I left the house and got all the way to town before I realized that I didn’t have my iPhone! I put the case on my belt and left the phone setting on the desk in my office.

I started having withdrawals until my sister let me use her 4s to shoot pictures of Elaina as she made her way around the sanctuary exploring before church started.

As she was working on climbing up some steps she sat down and gave me this look and I knew I had my picture.

When photographing small children you have to be quick as they don’t wait for you to take the picture! I think I got off two shots before she was off and on the move again.

We took my nieces and nephews to Holiday World in Indiana yesterday and I think this has turned out to be my favorite photo from the day and thankfully I shot it with my iPhone so it’s todays challenge picture.

I love the way Xavier is holding onto his cousin Damion and being pulled up the lounge chair at the Cabana we were in. A lot of implied action and the laugh on his face as Damion drags him along, all contribute help make this a strong photo.
