September 9, 2017 – Disrupting the quietness of the early morning with it’s huffing and puffing as Southern Railways steam locomotive 630 pulls through a tunnel of trees with a loaded passenger train heading west, on a return trip to the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum at Chattanooga, TN during 2017 Railfest.630 heading for Chattanooga, TN
October 19, 2017 – CSX intermodal Q029 passes it’s counterpart, Q028 sitting in the siding at Romney, as it makes its way south on the Henderson Subdivision at Nortonville, Ky.
October 18, 2017 – CSX intermodal Q026 heads north at the sound end of the siding at Nortonville, Ky on the Henderson Subdivision. At right is the new section of the bridge that will house the new section of track, joining the siding at Romney and Nortonville to form about 5 miles of a new double track main.
October 17, 2017 – CSX Q586 rounds the curve from the power siding as it approaches Arklow, with Union Pacific 2616 leading the consist of 6 locomotives, as it heads out of Madisonville, Ky, northbound on the Henderson Subdivision.
September 28, 2017 – CSXT 3449 leads empty coal train E005 as it passes the defect detector at Mortons Gap, Ky and a gauntlet of ties, on it’s way north on the Henderson Subdivision.
October 10, 2017 – Union Pacific 2715 leads CSX N052, a loaded coal train, past a CSX maintenance of way train off loading in the siding at Crofton, Ky, as it heads south on the Henderson Subdivision.
October 11, 2017 – CSXT 3016 leads hot intermodal CSX Q025, as it crests the hill at Mortons Junction, on it’s way south on the Henderson Subdivision at Mortons Gap, Ky.
October 13, 2017 – I went to the Nashville Steam event and came back with this gallery of photos! – It was a fundraising event for the restoration of Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis Rwy. No. 576 to operate excursions out of downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Great time had by all and a very worthy cause. August 15, 2017 – A BNSF empty coal train pulls past the tower in the Paducah and Louisville Railway yard at Paducah, Ky as it pulls through the yard where it tied down after unloading its train at Calvert City Loadout. The overhead track is the CN line.
October 11, 2017 – A loaded Paducah and Louisville Railway coal train heads south through the western Kentucky countryside, as it crosses over Bradley Sisk Road crossing on its way south at Richland, Ky.
October 10, 2017 – Time to go to work! CSX maintenance of way crews prepare their equipment for offloading, as the sun breaks through the stormy skies, at Crofton, Ky. The crews worked between the north end of Kelly though the north end of Crofton replacing ties, upgrading crossings an other routine maintenance between 6pm and midnight, as they continue to work their way north on the Henderson Subdivision.

May 8, 1989 – Throwback Saturday! This is a scan from a slide I made of Southern Pacific’s 4449 and Union Pacific’s 8444 (now 844) as they headed up the Cajon Pass in southern California. This was after they were on display for the 50th Anniversary of Los Angeles Union Station in 1989. It was an amazing thing to watch, photograph and chase!
October 5, 2017 – CSX Q512-05 heads through Nortonville, Ky, with UP 7903 leading, as it heads north on the Henderson Subdivision. At left is a crossover switch waiting to be installed as part of a double track main that is being constructed between Nortonville and Mortons Gap, Ky.
October 5, 2017 – CSX W951-05, a light engine move by CSXT 3315, passes through the construction under the bridge just north of Romney as it makes its way north on the Henderson Subdivision at Nortonville, Ky. CSX is working on connecting the sidings at Romney and Nortonville to create a two track main which will run approximately 5 miles from south of Mannington and Mortons Gap, Ky.
September 30, 2017 – Loaded CSX coal train N321 heads south on the Henderson Subdivision, after passing through the north end of Crofton, Ky with CSXT 3473 leading! For those that saw the truck in the crossing photo this is the frame 20 seconds later right before it entered the crossing.
September 30, 2017 – CSX Q648-28 slowly pulls into the south end of the siding at Crofton, Ky. on the Henderson Subdivision. to wait for a southbound hot intermodal that is still 14 miles away at Nortonville, Ky. Sometimes a good photo doesn’t have to show the train closeup!! Think outside the box sometimes with your shooting!! –
September 30, 2017 – I can’t for the life of me understand why anyone is willing to take a chance on getting hit by a train. For what, to save 5 minutes? I was all setup with my long lens at a crossing in Crofton, Ky, to photograph a nice long shot of loaded CSX coal train N321 heading south on the Henderson Subdivision, when this truck cut around the gates and right in front of the train, which wasn’t much more than probably 100 yards from the crossing. Never, ever worth risking your life for something like this!!
