Founded in August 2005, the railroad commenced its first operations on January 1, 2006, when P&L Transportation, formerly Four Rivers Transportation, the parent company of both the Evansville Western and Paducah & Louisville railroads, leased 124.5 miles (200.4 km) of mainline track, ties and track equipment between CSX’s Howell Yard in Evansville, Indiana, and the end-of-track at Okawville, Illinois, from CSX Transportation.
This line was once part of the Louisville & Nashville’s former Saint Louis Subdivision route that previously terminated in the metro-area of East St. Louis, Illinois, before being embargoed and slightly shortened under CSX ownership during the fall of 1993. CSX Transportation retains title to the real estate comprising the right of way on which the railroad operates but has leased it to EVWR for an initial period of 20 years.

This locomotive 1235 (SW-1200), is used at the Port of Indiana at Mount Vernon, Indiana by Respondek for switching operations and I caught it at the Evansville Western yard on December 18th, 2023, where it is reportedly undergoing repairs. From what I can find online it used to belong to the Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis (TRRA) #1235 and was acquired from them in 2008 by Respondek.
Update: I just found out that EVWR bought this switcher a couple of months ago from Respondek.

In this infrared photo we find Evansville Western Railway 4517, 4519 and 6002 as they sit tied down at the entrance of the Mt. Vernon Transfer Terminal, while they wait for their next assignment at Mt. Vernon, Indiana. There wasn’t a coal train in the transloading facility so the only thing I can figure is they were waiting to pick up cars at the Port of Indiana.
According the EVWR website: The Mt. Vernon Transfer Terminal is a coal-loading terminal on the Ohio River at Mt. Vernon, Indiana. Coal is delivered to Mt. Vernon by both rail and truck. The terminal has a capacity of 8 million tons per year with existing ground storage. Mt. Vernon is capable of receiving and unloading 105-car unit trains of coal via EVWR (with direct connections to the majority of Class I railroads) that can transfer to ground storage and/or direct to barge(s).
