December 26, 2016 – The engineer on CSX K443 gives a wave from the cab of Canadian Pacific 9644 as he makes his way south on the Henderson Subdivision through Mortons Gap, Ky under stormy skies.
December 26, 2016 – The conductor for Paducah and Louisville Railway’s LG2 boards 2117 under rainy, stormy skies, at PAL’s West Yard in Madisonville, Ky. The units are, 2117, 2120, 2111 and 2118. According to the conductor they were picking up a loaded coal train off the Warrior Lead and taking it south to Princeton, Ky.
December 26, 2016 – CSX empty coal train E303 (Stilesboro, GA Evansville, IN (the Evansville Western Railway) crosses Gum Lick Trestle, just south of Crofton, Ky as it heads north on the Henderson Subdivision. Gum Lick Trestle is the highest trestle on the Henderson Subdivision.
December 23, 2016 – CSX L688-23 moves through Mortons Junction at Mortons Gap, Ky with a 11,700 ft. mixed freight train it’s way north on the Henderson Subdivision.
December 23, 2016 – Ferromex SD70ACe 4059 and Union Pacific SD70M 4090 sit at Paducah and Louisville Railway’s West Yard in Madisonville, Ky with a loaded coke train, waiting for a PAL crew to take it on south to Calvert City, Ky.
November 2, 2016 – Norfolk Southern 8101 Heritage Unit Central of Georgia sits outside the NS yard office at Princeton, IN at sunset as it and NS 3625 wait for their crew.
December 20, 2016 – CSX intermodal L025-20 crosses over the bridge just north of Mortons Junction as it heads south on the Henderson Subdivision at Mortons Gap, Ky. A CSX bridge crew is currently working on upgrading the wooden bridge.
December 14, 2016 – CSX hot intermodal Q025, overtakes loaded grain train G211 in the siding with BNSF 8386 leading, at the south end of the siding at Slaughters, Ky as it heads south on the Henderson Subdivision.
December 5, 2016 – CSX P923-05, with CSXT 490 and 5211 leading, make their way up the viaduct at Rahm, Indiana at sunset, pulling the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey “Blue” Circus Train, as they head south on the Henderson Subdivision.
November 28, 2016 – A empty Evansville Western Railway coal train pulls into the loop at Warrior Coal in Nebo, Ky to pickup a load of coal, with units EVWR 6001, NRE 4231, 2776 and EVWR 6002 as power.
November 25, 2016 – CSX loaded grain train, G124-25 passes through the Red River cut as it makes its way south at Adams, Tennessee on the Henderson Subdivision with CSXT 763 on point.
November 25, 2016 – CSX’s Casky inspection crews inspect southbound loaded ethanol train CSX K429-24 at the south end of Casky Inspection Yard in Hopkinsville, Ky, before it continues its trip south on the Henderson Subdivision.

November 22, 2016 – Louisville & Indiana Railroad’s 2006 sits on the Main Street overpass in downtown Louisville, Ky as it handles a work train as crews work on track improvements. The Louisville & Indiana Railroad was formed in March 1994 to acquire 106 miles of rail line between Indianapolis and Louisville. LIRC connects with CSX, INRD, NS and PAL railroads. The line serves numerous major companies and an efficient inland port facility. Since formation, L&I has added a number of new industries to its lines.
November 16, 2016 – Huron and Eastern Railway 2026 (GP38-3) brings up the rear of the power lashup on CSX L688 as it passes the south end of the siding at Slaughters, Ky with a 11,500ft train, as it heads north on the Henderson Subdivision. Huron and Eastern Railway is a short line railroad operating 384 miles of track in The Thumb and Flint/Tri-Cities area of the lower peninsula of Michigan.
November 12, 2016 – Indiana Railroad’s newly painted “In Honor of Our Veterans” engine 4005 (SD40-2), sits at the north end of CSX’s Howell Yard in Evansville, Indiana. The unit was freshly painted at the National Railway Equipment Co. shops in Mt. Vernon, Illinois and is waiting to move on north along CSX’s CE&D Subdivision for delivery to the Indiana Railroad.
October 18, 2016 – The nose of Norfolk and Western Railway steam locomotive 611 makes for a nice portrait as it sits idle at Spencer, North Carolina. As luck would have it on my recent road trip there I arrived after their last weekend of running and couldn’t stick around for their return trip home. There’ll be other times!

October 27, 2016 – CSX Rail Train, W021-26 drops rail at the south end of Romney siding as it works its way north towards Nortonville, Ky on the Henderson Subdivision. CSX is preparing to double track from the crossing on the south end of Romney Siding to the north end of Nortonville siding. They will also double track from the south end of Sebree, Ky to the north end of Robards, Ky. Tracks at both locations will become main 1 and 2. I was told yesterday that construction should be getting underway in the next few months.
