An unusual site as no trains are moving in this panoramic photo shot from the end of one of the platforms at the Frankfurt (Main) Hauptbahnhof (train station) in Frankfurt, West Germany in the fall of 1985.
I lived outside of Frankfurt from 1978-1981 and went back on photo assignments for the Air Force almost every year afterwards until I retired in 1995.
The Frankfurt station was one of my favorite locations to photograph trains and on many weekends, you could find me hanging out here shooting photos. This shot was from one of my trips in 1985 and since this station is super busy with 25 mainline platforms in the station! During the time I lived in Germany is probably where I really started photographing trains as I traveled by train all the time there and had some great friends, The Grant Family, that were also into trains. We typically were off somewhere in Europe on many weekends, and I fell into a deeper love and appreciation for them during my time there.

According to The Man in Seat 61 website: Frankfurt am Main Hauptbahnhof (usually abbreviated to Hbf = main station in German) is an impressive terminus at the center of the busy city of Frankfurt, Germany, a beautiful station dating from 1888, although the halls either side of the main hall were added in 1924

Photo was shot with a Fuji 6X17 Panoramic Camera with a 105mm lens.

Evansville Western Railway locomotive 3837 leads a daily local north from Evansville, Indiana as it passes over the William Keck Bypass Road crossing at Mount Vernon, Indiana on March 11th, 2024.

According to Wikipedia: The Evansville Western Railway (reporting mark EVWR) is a Class II (as of 2022) regional railroad operating in the southern Illinois and Indiana region. It is one of three regional railroad subsidiaries owned and operated by P&L Transportation.

Founded in August 2005, the railroad commenced its first operations on January 1, 2006, when P&L Transportation, formerly Four Rivers Transportation, the parent company of both the Evansville Western and Paducah & Louisville railroads, leased 124.5 miles (200.4 km) of mainline track, ties and track equipment between CSX's Howell Yard in Evansville, Indiana, and the end-of-track at Okawville, Illinois, from CSX Transportation.

This line was once part of the Louisville & Nashville's former Saint Louis Subdivision route that previously terminated in the metro-area of East St. Louis, Illinois, before being embargoed and slightly shortened under CSX ownership during the fall of 1993. CSX Transportation retains title to the real estate comprising the right of way on which the railroad operates but has leased it to EVWR for an initial period of 20 years.

CSX Chesapeake & Ohio Heritage unit 1869 leads hot intermodal, CSX I026 across Gum Lick Trestle

CSX Chesapeake & Ohio Heritage unit 1869 leads hot intermodal, CSX I026, as it crosses over Gum Lick Trestle, at Kelly, Kentucky as it heads north on the CSX Henderson Subdivision.

According to the CSX Website: A locomotive commemorating the proud history of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway has entered service as the fifth in the CSX heritage series celebrating the lines that came together to form the modern railroad.

Numbered CSX 1869 in honor of the year the C&O was formed in Virginia from several smaller railroads, the newest heritage locomotive sports a custom paint design that includes today’s CSX colors on the front of the engine and transitions to a paint scheme inspired by 1960s era C&O locomotives on the rear two-thirds.

The C&O Railway was a major line among North American freight and passenger railroads for nearly a century before becoming part of the Chessie System in 1972 and eventually merging into the modern CSX. In 1970, the C&O included more than 5,000 route miles of track stretching from Newport News, Virginia, to Chicago and the Great Lakes.

Designed and painted at CSX’s locomotive shop in Waycross, Georgia, the C&O unit will join four other commemorative units in revenue service on CSX’s 20,000-mile rail network.

The heritage series is reinforcing employee pride in the history of the railroad that continues to move the nation’s economy with safe, reliable, and sustainable rail-based transportation services.
