January 13, 2019 – A Charlotte, NC LYNX Blue Line Commuter train pulls away from the 25th Street light rail station, under a maze of power lines, as it heads north to its final stop at the I-485 station. According to Wikipedia, 25th Street is a light rail station on the LYNX Blue Line in the Optimist Park neighborhood of Charlotte, North Carolina, United States. It opened on March 16, 2018, as part of the Blue Line extension to the UNC Charlotte campus. January 13, 2019 – NC Piedmont commuter train 74, with locomotive 1893, City of Burlington, leading, heads north out of the NS Charlotte Yard at Charlotte, NC bound for Raleigh, NC under stormy skies.
According a 2011 press release from NCDOT, The North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Rail Division commissioned the #1893 “City of Burlington” commuter locomotive into service for the use in their daily Piedmont passenger train service on December 15th, 2011. The then newly-refurbished locomotive replaced the locomotive damaged in a crash in Mebane in 2010. The #1893 “City of Burlington” is painted in the NCDOT Piedmont paint scheme, which incorporates the colors and symbols of North Carolina’s state flag. NCDOT names its locomotives for the cities along its passenger rail corridor. January 12, 2019 – A LYNX Blue Line train arrives at the end of it’s line a the I-485 stop in Pineville, NC.According Wikipedia: The Lynx Blue Line is a light rail line in Charlotte, North Carolina. The 19.3-mile (31.1 km) line goes from its northern terminus at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in University City through NoDa, Uptown, and South End then paralleling South Boulevard to its southern terminus just north of Interstate 485 at the Pineville city limits.
There are 26 stations in the system, the light rail portion of which carries an average of over 16,900 passenger trips every day. It is the first major rapid rail service of any kind in North Carolina, and began operating seventy years after the previous Charlotte streetcar system was disbanded in 1938, in favor of motorized bus transit.
